Privacy Policy

Clear rules for how Deutschify handles your account, learning progress, and communications — written for learners, not lawyers first.

Effective July 9, 2026

01Who we are

Deutschify (“we”, “us”) is an interactive German B2 exam preparation platform for learners — especially Tunisian students preparing for study or life in Germany. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process when you visit deutschify.app, create an account, practice modules, or contact us.

If you use Deutschify through a school, teacher, or partner program, that organization may also process your data under its own policies. This notice covers Deutschify’s own processing as the service provider.

02Data we collect

We only collect what we need to run the product, keep accounts secure, and improve learning outcomes.

  • Account data: email address, display name, password (stored hashed), language and UI preferences, optional avatar image.
  • Learning data: module progress, attempt scores, streaks, onboarding choices (focus skills, Teils, themes), writing and speaking submissions you choose to send for review.
  • Billing data: plan status, subscription interval, and invoice metadata. Card details are handled by our payment processor when payments go live — we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Technical data: IP address, device/browser type, approximate location derived from IP, cookies or similar identifiers, and basic usage events needed for security and reliability.
  • Support data: messages you send us by email or in-product contact forms.

03How we use your data

  • Provide and personalize the learning experience (dashboard, progress, recommendations from onboarding).
  • Authenticate you, reset passwords, verify email, and protect accounts against abuse.
  • Process subscriptions, show plan status, and send transactional emails (verification, password reset, important service notices).
  • Enable teacher or reviewer feedback on Schreiben and Mündlich submissions you submit.
  • Monitor reliability, prevent fraud, and improve product quality using aggregated or de-identified analytics where possible.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your writing or speaking submissions to train public AI models without a separate, clear opt-in.

05Who we share data with

We use trusted processors who help us operate Deutschify. They may only process data on our instructions.

  • Hosting, database, and file storage providers.
  • Email delivery providers for transactional mail.
  • Payment processors for subscriptions (when enabled).
  • Analytics providers that help us understand product usage in aggregate.
  • Teachers or content reviewers when you submit work for feedback.
  • Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety.

06How long we keep data

Account and learning records are kept while your account is active. After deletion or prolonged inactivity, we delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period unless we must retain it for legal, tax, dispute, or security reasons (for example, limited billing records).

Backups may retain residual copies for a short window before automatic expiry.

07Security

We use industry-standard measures such as hashed passwords, encrypted transport (HTTPS), access controls, and monitoring. No online service is perfectly secure; please use a strong unique password and keep your login private.

08Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.

  • Update profile details anytime in your account settings.
  • Download your data from Profile → Privacy & data → Export my data.
  • Delete your account from Profile → Privacy & data (email confirmation required).
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential marketing emails via the link in those emails (transactional mail will continue as needed to run the service).

We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. If we refuse a request where the law allows, we will explain why.

09Cookies and similar tech

We use essential cookies or local storage for sign-in sessions and security. We may use analytics cookies or similar technologies to understand how the product is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential storage may prevent login.

10Children

Deutschify is aimed at learners preparing for B2 exams and is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

11International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than where you live (for example, EU or US infrastructure). Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the product evolves. We will post the new version with an updated effective date. Material changes may also be announced by email or in-app notice.
